In the first few years of painting I worked daily outdoors painting landscapes and cityscapes and in the evenings portraits. Later I began experimenting in the studio creating imaginative paintings of things that I had seen that had impressed me. This eventually led to what I call ‘Figurative Abstract’. I became more concerned with colors and shapes than with the subject matter itself. I simplified the subject breaking it down into a few colored shapes that worked together to create an interesting abstract design. The subject was just a clothes hanger on which I could hang my colored shapes.
